Burnt Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

My friend Meg introduced me to this fantastic cookie recipe. There is something special about the simplicity & tasty nature of a chocolate cookie. For that simple reason, I am happy to share my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe to date. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, room temperature
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 1 tsp molasses
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 1/4 cups chocolate chips
- coarse sea salt, for topping
Directions:
- Melt 1 stick (1/2 c) of butter over medium heat until it lightly browns. Let cool for 20 minutes.
- Mix the other 1 stick (1/2 c) of butter in with 1 c brown sugar. Mix in 2 t vanilla & 1 t molasses. Add browned butter & 1/2 c sugar. Mix until light & fluffy.
- Add 1 egg & 1 egg yolk. Mix 2 1/4 c flour, 1 t salt, & 1 t baking soda. Fold in 1 1/4 c chocolate chips.
- Scoop spoonfuls of dough onto parchment lined baking pans, space apart & flatten slightly. (Optional: Refrigerate for 30 minutes.) Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Sprinkle coarse sea salt on top of cookies before baking.
- Bake ~10-13 minutes depending on size of cookies. Cool on rack ~5 minutes before eating. Store in air tight container.
